Premio Paganini in London

Paganini celebrates the friendship between Genoa and the City of London

The Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, within the scope of the collaboration agreement signed at Palazzo Tursi on December 22, 2022, with Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli, will participate in “The Lord Mayor’s Show,” the historic event held to mark the election of the Mayor of the City of London.

Celebrating the strong bond of friendship between Genoa and London, the Italian Embassy in London will offer a concert in the presence of Ambassador Inigo Lambertini performed by the young Dutch violinist Hawijch Elders, awarded fourth place in finals of the 57th edition of the Paganini Prize held on October 27, 2023.

This event offers a preview of the important concert planned for the month of October 2024, 70 years after the first edition of the violin competition dedicated to Niccolò Paganini, who performed with his violin, the “Cannone,” several times in London in the period between 1831 and 1834 during the course of his legendary European tour, just as, in 1980, Renato de Barbieri played in honor of Queen Elizabeth II during the British sovereign’s memorable visit to Genoa.

The presence of the Paganini Prize is very significant in the institutional events promoting Genoa in the rest of the world. We are very pleased and honored to participate in this collaboration, and I would like to thank Ambassador Lambertini for his interest and sensibility. At the same time, there is a historic link between Paganini and London, which we intend to valorize next year, in accordance with the agreement between Michael Mainelli and Marco Bucci. We are at work on an important and ambitious project. The young violinist Hawijch Elders was an extraordinary protagonist of the 57th edition of the competition and I am pleased by her presence in London, which makes her, in a certain sense, an ambassadress of Paganini and the violin” said the President of the Paganini Prize, Giovanni Panebianco.

Prior to the concert, city councillor Barbara Grosso will present the results of the 57th edition of the Paganini Prize, as well as future activities planned for 2024 in advance of the 58th edition.
