Pavel Berman

Pavel Berman, born in Moscow, studied at the Central School of Music and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Igor Bezrodniy. He continued his studies at Juilliard School in New York with Dorothy DeLay and Isaac Stern.

At the age of just 17, in 1987, he was awarded second prize at Premio Paganini, attracting international attention, while at the age of 20 he won first prize and the Gold Medal at the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis. He has played with the most important orchestras in the world, as soloist and conductor. He teaches at the Conservatory in Lugano and at the ‘Lorenzo Perosi’ Academy in Biella. His students include Giuseppe Gibboni, winner of Premio Paganini in 2021, and Jingzhi Zhang, second prize winner in 2023. Since 2021, he has been co-founder and artistic director of the ‘Monteverdi Circle Online Centre for the Performing Arts’.
