Born in Genoa, he began studying the violin with Josef Levin. He graduated from the N. Paganini Conservatory in Genoa in the class of Mario Trabucco, and later graduated from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht in the class of Philipp Hirschhorn and Hermann Krebbers. He also specialized with Salvatore Accardo, Boris Belkin, Thomas Zeethmair, Christoph Poppen, Rodney Friend (First Violin of the New York and London Philharmonic) L'Ensemble Intercontemporain and members of the Quartets: Italiano, Amadeus and Alban Berg.

Fourth Prize at the International Competition "Premio Paganini" in Genoa in 2002, won the biennial competition "Premio Città di Vittorio Veneto" in 1999. Former First Shoulder Violin of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra he has been First Guest Violin with: London Philharmonic Orchestra, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, RAI Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale di Torino, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra etc. ... under the baton of Lorin Mazel, George Pretre, Kurt Masur, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, John Elliot Gardiner, Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Harding, Myun Wung Chung, Vladimir Jurowsky, Neville, Marriner, Dimitri Kitajenko etc.

He made his conducting debut in Gioacchino Rossini's Barber of Seville at the Teatro Lirico in Sassari, conducting among the cast: C. Molinari, G. Giuseppini, F. Previati and E. Iviglia. He debuted in the Season of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo conducting Handel's Ode S. Cecilia with the National Baroque Orchestra and in the dual role of conductor/soloist, he conducted the Orchestra of the Teatro Bellini in Catania and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in Palermo. In 2018 he was the protagonist of the Dynamic discographic production dedicated to Paganini and his instruments, the violin the guitar and the cello that belonged to Paganini in collaboration with Clemens Hagen on cello and Matteo Mela on guitar. Passionate about teaching, Giulio Plotino has been Professor of violin studies at the Firenze, Mantova and Messina Conservatories in Italy and is currently Violin Professor at UWA – University of Western Australia and visiting Violin Professor at WAAPA – Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts in Perth.

Giulio Plotino plays an instrument made in Cremona in 2004 by Alessandro Tossani
